AIM Independent Living Center is seeking volunteers who want to help with our systems advocacy.

Systems advocacy involves pushing for positive changes for people with disabilities at the local, state and federal level.

We are part of the Statewide Systems Advocacy Network (SSAN), which is coordinated by the New York Association on Independent Living (NYAIL) and includes 15 independent living centers across the state.

Together, we are a strong voice on issues, policies, regulations and legislation that affect people with disabilities. We push for accessibility and improvements in support services, benefit programs, health care, housing, transportation, employment, education, and elections. We also work to increase awareness of disability issues and the independent living movement.

If you sign up to be a volunteer systems advocate, you’ll receive updates and alerts about current issues and will be invited to sign petitions, email or call elected officials, and other activities.

To join our volunteer group, contact AIM Outreach Specialist and Systems Advocate  Derrick Ek.
