AIM works to enact positive changes for people with disabilities at the local, state and federal level.

We are part of the Statewide Systems Advocacy Network (SSAN), which is coordinated by the New York Association on Independent Living (NYAIL) and includes advocates from 15 independent living centers across the state.

Together, we are a strong voice on issues, policies, regulations and legislation that affect people with disabilities.

We push for accessibility and improvements in support services, benefit programs, health care, housing, transportation, employment, education, and elections.

We also work to increase awareness of disability issues and the independent living movement.

AIM is seeking local volunteers to help with our systems advocacy efforts. Volunteers may be asked to sign petitions, write emails and letters, make phone calls or participate in events.

For more information or to join our volunteer group, contact Systems Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator Derrick Ek at (607) 962-8225, ext. 134.
