AIM’s new Community Nutrition Program has begun operations. This program provides food and basic goods to people in need up to twice a month, free of charge. Consumers can order from a regularly updated menu of available items. Both pick-up and delivery are available.
This program is open to anyone in the community.
A menu of available items is posted on AIM’s website, and orders can be placed beginning Monday by contacting Community Nutrition Program Coordinator Andy Zick at azick@aimcil.com or (607) 962-8225, ext. 127.
Pick-up orders should be made at least one day in advance, although same day pick-up may be available. The distribution site is located at 254 E. First St. in Corning, at the former Southern Tier Pediatrics office on the same block as AIM’s headquarters. Pick-ups are to be made in the rear of the building.
Delivery is available to consumers in Steuben, Chemung, and Schuyler counties. Delivery orders should be placed at least two days in advance.
To be eligible for a delivery, a consumer must: Not have a valid driver’s license; not have a working vehicle; be unable to travel or wait for services alone; or have a disability that makes travel to a store or food distribution site unsafe.
Deliveries will be made to Chemung County on Mondays and Thursdays, to Steuben County on Tuesdays and Fridays, and to Schuyler County on Wednesdays. Consumers should allow a two-hour window for delivery.
In addition, AIM will provide delivery service to consumers who wish to order from local grocery stores using an online shopping platform, such as Instacart. AIM will pick up and deliver orders from local stores such as Wegmans, Walmart, Tops, Aldi and Petco. Consumers pay for these orders, but delivery is free.
Arrangements must be made by the consumer with both their store of choice and the Community Nutrition Program two days in advance, and must coincide with the scheduled delivery days in their county.
The Community Nutrition Program, which is a partnership with the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, is open to the community. COVID-19 precautions are in place for both delivery and pick-up orders.
