AIM has received a grant to help individuals and families access health insurance coverage so they can receive treatment for substance use and mental health disorders.
AIM was awarded $80,000 to join the state’s Community Health Access to Addiction and Mental Healthcare Project (CHAMP). The funding was provided by the New York State Office of Addiction Supports and Services (OASAS) and the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH).
AIM will provide CHAMP services in Chemung, Schuyler and Steuben counties, free of charge.
AIM will assist people with insurance eligibility, accessing care, and overcoming high costs of care. We will assist with insurance denials and other administrative barriers to health insurance coverage.
We will also advise clients how to secure payment and authorization from a health insurance plan, and provide information about substance use and mental health disorder parity laws and other regulations that protect consumers’ rights.
CHAMP will complement two recovery programs already offered by AIM: Recovery Peer Advocate and Family Support Navigator. Brandon Beuter, who provides services in both programs, has been promoted to Peer Recovery Coordinator and will also supervise CHAMP. We will be hiring a Recovery Insurance Navigator and will begin providing CHAMP services in early 2023.
