Open enrollment over, help still available

Feb. 1, 2017

CORNING | Open enrollment is over, but it’s still possible to sign up for a health plan for 2017, and AIM’s free Navigator Program can help.

AIM has a team of six navigators covering Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler and Allegany counties who help people apply for coverage online through NY State of Health, the state’s Affordable Care Act marketplace.

Enrollment in Medicaid, Child Health Plus and the Essential Plan is year-round, with eligibility based on income and household size.

Others may enroll in a 2017 health plan from a private insurer outside of open enrollment if they have a qualifying life event.  Subsidies are available to lower the costs.

Qualifying life events include:

-Loss of health insurance (for reasons other than not paying the premium)
-Moving to New York or to another county within New York
-Getting married, divorced or legally separated
-Becoming pregnant, having a child, adopting a child or placing a child in foster care
-Becoming a U.S. citizen, national or lawfully present individual
-Becoming eligible or ineligible for subsidies for a health plan through NY State of Health due to changes in income or household size

To schedule an appointment with an AIM navigator, call (607) 962-8225. Appointments are free, and typically take less than an hour. Navigators are available on evenings and weekends.
