Open enrollment begins Nov. 1; AIM Navigator Program can help

Sept. 22, 2017

Open enrollment through NY State of Health, the state’s online health insurance marketplace, will begin Nov. 1 and continue through Jan. 31.

AIM Independent Living Center’s Navigator Program will provide free assistance to help consumers in Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler and Allegany counties enroll in coverage through NY State of Health, or to renew or change their health plan for 2018.

AIM will have navigators available in Corning, Bath, Hornell, Elmira, Montour Falls, Watkins Glen, and multiple locations throughout Allegany County, including Alfred, Almond, Bolivar, Belmont, Cuba, and Wellsville.

For more information or to schedule an appointment with a navigator, call AIM at (888) 962-8244 or (607) 962-8225.

Open enrollment begins Nov. 1 for new enrollees, and Nov. 15 for people who have coverage and want to renew or change health plans. To have coverage start or renew for Jan. 1, consumers need to enroll by Dec. 15.

Those who enroll between Dec. 16 and Jan. 15 will have coverage beginning Feb. 1, and those who enroll between Jan. 16 and Jan. 31 will have coverage beginning March 1.

Details about 2018 plan options will be released in late September. Individuals currently enrolled in a plan through NY State of Health will receive notices in October about how to renew their coverage.  Some enrolled in Medicaid have already been invited to renew early.

While open enrollment for 2018 won’t begin until Nov. 1, AIM navigators are available now to help consumers enroll in Medicaid, the Essential Plan and Child Health Plus, which offer year-round enrollment. Eligibility is based on household income.

For those who don't qualify for those programs, enrollment in other health plans is available outside of open enrollment if a consumer has a qualifying life event such as moving, getting married or divorced, becoming pregnant or having a child.
