Open enrollment underway at NY State of Health; AIM's Navigator Program offers free assistance

Nov. 10, 2017

Open enrollment through NY State of Health, the state’s official health plan  Marketplace, is underway and continues through Jan. 31, 2018.  AIM Independent Living Center’s Navigator Program provides free enrollment assistance.

AIM’s Navigator Program helps individuals and families in Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler and Allegany counties enroll in health insurance coverage through NY State of Health, and renew or change their health plan for 2018.

The program, funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Health, is completely free and is not associated with any insurance companies.

AIM has navigators available in Corning, Bath, Hornell, Elmira, Montour Falls, Watkins Glen and multiple locations in Allegany County. Evening and weekend appointments are available.

For more information or to schedule a free appointment, call (607) 962-8225.

Open enrollment for Qualified Health Plans began Nov. 1 for new enrollees, and begins Nov. 16 for people who have coverage and want to renew or change health plans. For coverage beginning Jan. 1, 2018 consumers need to enroll by Dec. 15, 2017.

Those who enroll between Dec. 16 and Jan. 15 will have coverage beginning Feb. 1, and those who enroll between Jan. 16 and Jan. 31 will have coverage beginning March 1.

Most Marketplace consumers qualify for financial assistance to pay for coverage. Eligibility for subsidies is based on income and household size.

Consumers may qualify for programs such as Medicaid, Child Health Plus or the Essential Plan, or get tax credits that lower monthly premiums for Qualified Health Plans from a variety of insurers. Dental insurance is also available through NY State of Health.
