Planned Elmira senior-housing complex to be discussed at public meeting

Nov. 22, 2016

ELMIRA | A public meeting to discuss a planned affordable-housing complex for seniors will be held at 3 p.m. Nov. 28 at AIM Independent Living Center’s Elmira office, 350 W. Church St.

Representatives from AIM and CDS Housing will give a short presentation on the proposed project and answer residents’ questions. Anyone interested in the planned project is invited to attend the meeting.

The planned 50-unit complex will be built on the former Elmira City School District athletic fields, known as McNaught Field, on Maple Avenue. CDS purchased the land in 2015.

The two-story complex will feature one-bedroom units exclusively. Forty units will be dedicated to seniors, with the other 10 reserved for individuals with developmental disabilities.

The property will feature a community room, a computer center and an exercise room. AIM will maintain a staffed, on-site office to help residents who need community services. Rent will be based on the resident’s income.

AIM is a Corning-based nonprofit organization that provides community-based services to individuals with disabilities and seniors. AIM has offices in Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler and Allegany counties.
