CDPAS, OPWDD direct care workers to receive PPE kits

April 27, 2020

Beginning Monday, April 27, AIM will distribute kits of personal protective equipment (PPE) to direct care workers in our Consumer-Directed Personal Assistance Services (CDPAS) and Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) programs.

CDPAS Personal Assistants and OPWDD Self-Hire Staff will receive a kit consisting of an N95 mask, two surgical masks, five pairs of gloves, a bottle of hand sanitizer and a printed COVID-19 resource page.

These kits are for employees who are currently working with consumers. Only one kit is being provided at this time, but AIM is working to secure additional PPE.

They can be picked up at the following times and locations:

  • Elmira AIM office (350 W. Church St.)
    9 a.m- 7 p.m. Mondays
    9 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday

  • Corning AIM office (271 E. First St.)
    9 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesdays
    9 a.m.-7 p.m. Thursdays

When arriving to an AIM office, employees are asked to call (607) 962-8225 from their vehicle. If picking up at the Elmira location, dial extension 212. If picking up at the Corning location, dial extension 150.

An AIM staff member will take the employee’s name and then place the kit outside the front door for pickup after the door is closed. Employees are asked to wait until the person ahead of them has returned to their vehicle before exiting their own vehicle to pick up the kit.

Employees may only pick up their own kit, and not that of another employee.

If you are not able to travel to the Corning or Elmira locations, AIM can mail a kit, although we are not allowed to mail hand sanitizer.

Gloves have also been delivered directly to CDPAS consumers. It is expected the gloves will be shared with staff.

All employees are asked to wear PPE while providing care.

The PPE kits were provided with the help of grant funding from the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes’ COVID-19 Unity Response Fund, and donations of supplies from the emergency services offices of Steuben, Chemung and Tioga counties.
